Jack Cheng, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of NIO discusses the electric car brands plans for the future

After a successful outing at the Shanghai Auto Show, NIO has big plans for the smart, electric and autonomous vehicle industry Jack Cheng, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of NIO tells Tom Pattinson

What were the main outcomes or launches at the Shanghai Auto Show for NIO?

We had a lot on show at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. We exhibited the new sedan series ET Preview as well as the NIO Power Service Network, of which we had the NIO Power Swap station and fast charging piles on display. We also announced that our “One Click for Power” services would be officially opened to the public through a WeChat mini program. After more than four years of development, NIO has grown into a technology company with a continually improving product and service layout.

As a maker of cars, why is important to have NIO House?

When we founded NIO, we knew that we had to have a place to connect with our users beyond dealerships and display areas. At the NIO House, we would like everyone to experience what makes NIO especially unique—NIO’s beyond the car experiences. The NIO House is an innovative and welcoming space where users can explore, create, host parties and meet new people. The NIO House creates possibilities.

You also have NIO Life – can you explain more about this?

NIO Life is the original lifestyle brand under NIO. This is where we aim to shape a joyful lifestyle with well-designed products that tell stories and demonstrate awareness while leveraging global design forces.

What are your plans going forward internationally?

We are a global company based in China that is present in Shanghai, Beijing, London, San Jose, Munich, and six other locations. The focus is on success in the China market first. The NIO ES8, a 7-seat high-performance electric SUV was launched in December 2017. The NIO ES6, our high-performance long-range electric SUV was launched in December 2018.

Why did you decide to bring NIO House to the Auto Show?

We built a NIO House for Auto Shanghai not only to exhibit our products and services but because we wanted to create an oasis for our friends who come to the auto show to get away from the hustle and bustle and find a place to be happy and inspired.
